Ambit Energy Under Investigation in New York State

New York's state utility regulation agency, the Public Service Commission, is investigating Ambit Energy after a spike in complaints against the company. Most of the complaints stemmed from higher-than-expected bills as some Ambit customers may have been moved off a guaranteed savings plan that was indexed to utlity rates and onto a more expensive, variable rate plan. Ambit Energy was the subject of 289 consumer complaints in New York through the first 3 months of the year, which is more than double the number of any other energy company, and has also been the subject of 117 follow-up complaints made by customers who felt the company had not resolved their issue.

The Public Service Commission could decide to suspend Ambit's ability to operate in New York.
